HARMONY, Maine — Maine’s best-known annual pro-marijuana festival kicked off its 21st year Thursday on Freedom Field.

Hempstock, which runs through Monday, is a political and musical gathering that draws attendees from all walks of life who want the prohibition on cannabis lifted, not only in Maine but beyond, organizer Don Christen said in a news release earlier this week.

This year’s edition of Hempstock features speeches by marijuana activists as well as more than 30 bands, including Gent Treadly featuring Steve Molitz of Partical, Big Rhythm Wine, Supernaut, Holy Smoke, Skyfoot, 220s and Between the Lines.

Christen said Hempstock has activities for all ages, including horseshoes, volleyball and Frisbees. Fire pits are required for campfires and cooking and a large community fire pit will be available by the stage.

Both fieldside and wooded campsites are available, as are water and food and other vendors.

Freedom Field is located just off Route 150 at 75 Carson Hill Road. For information, visit www.mainevocals.net, call 696-4444 or email mainevocals@msn.com.
