BANGOR, Maine — A local man who got into an argument with a woman Tuesday afternoon was seen by investigating officers trying to conceal drug paraphernalia and then he took off on foot, Sgt. Paul Edwards said.

Mitchell Rideout, 41, “was caught by the officers after a brief foot chase,” the sergeant said.

Officers Dan Herrick, Ryan Freeman and John Robinson had arrived on Clinton Street around 12:15 p.m. to investigate the argument involving Rideout when Herrick “observed him trying to conceal a blue straw with a white substance on it.”

Edwards did not say what the white power was, but Rideout was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of scheduled drugs. He also was charged with refusing to submit to arrest for running from police and operating a motor vehicle after license suspension.

Rideout was taken to Penobscot County Jail and remained there Wednesday afternoon, a jail official said.
