HAMPDEN — First Lt. Michael Peverada of Hampden recently was promoted to the rank of captain in the artillery branch of the United States Army. He is a graduate of Norwich University, Northfield, Vt., where he was commissioned a second lieutenant.

Peverada completed his artillery training at Fort Sill, Okla., and served as a rocket battalion commander in Korea. He is executive officer in the First Battalion 3077th Field Artillery Regiment at Fort Lewis, Wash.

AUGUSTA — Maj. Gen. John W. Libby, adjutant general of the Maine National Guard, has announced the promotions of several Maine Army National Guard soldiers from Penobscot, Piscataquis and Somerset counties for the month of June.

The citizen soldiers and their new ranks, hometowns and the unit they are assigned to are:

Pfc. Eric Arrants, Charleston, 488th Military Police Company.

Pfc. Randy Watts, Orono, 185th Engineer Support Company.

Pfc. Tyler Wintle, Dexter, Company B, 3rd Battalion, 172nd Mountain Infantry.

Pvt. (E-2) Rachel Ellis, Newport, 136th Engineer Company.

Pvt. (E-2) Jacob Norris, Stetson, 185th Engineer Support Company.

Pfc. Jesse Clement, Anson, 488th Military Police Company.

Pfc. Nicholas Estes, St. Albans, 488th Military Police Company

Pvt. (E-2) Miles Emery, Fairfield, 488th Military Police Company

Basic training

SEARSPORT — Army National Guard Pfc. Tatjana G. Francis-Mezger has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. She is a 2008 graduate of Searsport District High School and the daughter of Elvira Mezger of Searsport.

MONROE — Army National Guard Pvt. Joel Thomas graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. A 1998 graduate of Mount View High School in Thorndike, Thomas is the son of Robert Thomas of Monroe.
