BELFAST — All are invited to this year’s free festivities 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, in the Belfast Co-op parking lot at 123 High St. As in years past, there will be a barbecue with Caldwell Farm burgers, co-op sausage with peppers and onions, hot dogs, chicken wings, and veggie dogs and burgers.
Llocal alternative health practitioners will offer a taste of their services, including Deborah Keene: Ayurvedics & Yoga, Betz Chiropractic & Wellness, Maria Gail and Katia Ancona: Massage Therapy, Kerri Vacher and Tim Hagney: Naturopathics, Jamie Huntsberger: Structural Integration, and Pam McKeen offering natural foods cooking demos.
As always, some of the co-op’s vendors will be there with product samples, including Maine Root sodas, Swan’s Ice Cream-Dolcelinos, Little Lad’s popcorn, Pastor Chuck, Daily Bread, Good Bread, Bagelmania, Nature’s Path, Chiame, Aubrey, Burt’s Bees and Ruby Moon.
Live music will entertain throughout the day. This year’s lineup includes: 11 a.m., Bel-Isle Ensemble featuring Bruce Boege and special guest Tom Luther (the co-op’s produce department manager); noon, Belfast Bay Fiddlers; 1:15 p.m., Odlaw; 2:30 p.m., International Submarine Jug Band; 3:45 p.m., Willy Kelly Band; and 5 p.m., The Hips.
Also in keeping with tradition, there will be a book sale, gift basket raffles, 50-50 raffle and a dessert table selling cheesecake and other goodies, with all proceeds donated to local nonprofits. Last year these activities raised more than $1,150. This year’s recipients are the Belfast Soup Kitchen, New Hope for Women, Camden Rockport Animal Rescue League, The Game Loft, Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association and Forgotten Felines.
Village Farm of Freedom will sell organic produce. The Camden Rockport Animal Rescue League and the Humane Society of Knox County will be there with a few companion animals in need of homes as well as Searsport Animal Fund Endowment, providing pet food to people during times of financial hardship.
