The Associated Press

BATH, Maine — Police in Bath said a man who was involved in an hourlong standoff with police has been charged.

Twenty-three-year-old John Byrd, Jr., allegedly threatened a couple during a drug deal late Saturday. A man and woman said they were threatened in a lot near Spring Street.

When police went to Byrd’s home to arrest him, Byrd refused to leave, prompting police to surround the home.

Byrd, who eventually surrendered, was jailed. He was charged with criminal threatening and a bail violation.

Police told WMTW-TV they later returned to his house and seized weapons, drugs and drug paraphernalia.
