Reporter Susan Sharon of the Maine Public Broadcasting Network interviews a man whose ordeal in Bangor with the designer drugs known as ‘bath salts’ led him to the brink of suicide.

“At his lowest point, Kyle says he spent six hours straight walking the neighborhood and trapped with his paranoid thoughts, darting in and out of bushes in people’s yards, thinking he was being watched and hearing voices that were not there.

He walked for so long that he says he developed blisters, and by the time he went home his feet were bloody. He’d lost 30 pounds during this three-week period, was convinced his girlfriend was cheating on him and didn’t know what to do.

‘I wanted to kill myself,” he says. ‘But I also thought about other ways to get away from that situation. And I don’t know how I did with the thoughts I was having.’”
