Kennel Shop board elections

BANGOR, Maine — Don Hanson, co-owner and director of behavior counseling and training for Green Acres Kennel Shop in Bangor, has been elected chairman of the board of trustees of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, which has its headquarters in Greenville, S.C.

Hanson served two terms on the board from 2002 to 2007, was board vice president in 2005 and 2006, and president in 2007.

The Association of Pet Dog Trainers is the largest organization of dog training and behavior professionals in the world. Founded in 1993, the mission of the 6,000-plus-member organization is “to represent and advance the dog training profession through education and advocacy.” More information about the association is available at www.aptd.com.

Hanson is a certified professional dog trainer, a certified dog behavior consultant, Bach Foundation-registered animal practitioner and therapy dog evaluator.

Champion the Cure Challenge recruiting volunteers

BREWER, Maine — The Champion The Cure Challenge will be held from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Lafayette Family Cancer Center at EMMC’s CancerCare of Maine in Brewer. The event includes a 1K Family Fun Run, 5K or 10K Run-Walk, 25, 50 or 100-mile bike ride and a 50-mile motorcycle ride. Church benefit yard sale in East Millinocket

EAST MILLINOCKET, Maine — The St. Peter’s Church will hold its annual Lawn Party from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, at the church, 25 Cedar St. in East Millinocket.

Yard sale activities include a magician show, music, games, cash giveaways, candy and a spaghetti supper. Donations and proceeds from the sale will help the church with increasing costs and operating expenses. For more information, call 723-4828.
