Abbot tax bills to be mailed this week

By Diana Bowley, BDN Staff

ABBOT, Maine — Most Abbot property tax payers will see an increase in their bills when they receive them later this week or early next week.

Selectmen recently set a tax rate of $11.75 per $1,000 property valuation, up from the $10.35 rate in 2010.

All three expenses related to property taxes increased this year, according to town officials. Education costs made up the biggest percentage of property taxes, at 60.77 percent, while municipal costs followed at 28.30 percent and the county at 10.93 percent.

Correction: Incorrect information was provided to the BDN for an early version of this story regarding the percentages of Abbot property taxes required for the town, schools and Piscataquis County. The correct figures are 10.93 percent for the county, 28.3 percent for the town and 60.77 percent for schools.
