Two women face domestic violence charges

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

NEWPORT, Maine — Two women, one from Pittsfield and the other from Newport, were arrested in separate cases of domestic violence over the weekend, according to Newport police Chief Leonard Macdaid.

On Aug. 6, Officer Kenny Williams went to the Circle K gas station on Routes 11 and 100 in response to a report that Kelly Rider, 24, of Newport had struck her boyfriend in the mouth.

The man didn’t need medical attention, Macdaid said, and Rider was arrested and taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where she was charged with domestic assault and criminal mischief.

Rider’s bail was set at $1,500.

On Aug. 7, Williams responded to a call from Elm Street that Kara Hutchinson, 22, of Pittsfield had thrown a kitchen utensil at her live-in boyfriend, which subsequently got stuck in the man’s leg, Macdaid said.

The man didn’t require medical treatment, and Hutchinson, who doesn’t have any prior arrests, was charged with domestic violence and transported to the Penobscot County Jail.
