Maine Oxy gets $9,774 abatement from Brewer

By Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN Staff

BREWER, Maine — Erroneous bills were sent from the city to Maine Oxy-Acetylene Supply Co. on Robertson Boulevard for a sprinkler system it didn’t have, and to correct the problem the Brewer City Council has approved a $9,774 abatement to the company.

The erroneous bills involved a fire suppression sprinkler system and were issued over a period of several years, City Manager Steve Bost said Wednesday.

Once Maine Oxy informed the city of the error, Assistant City Manager James Smith quickly addressed the problem, Bost said.

“We have come to a tentative mutual agreement for abatement,” read an order approved by the council on Tuesday. It said the company had agreed to waive all future appeals for the settlement of the account in exchange for the monetary settlement.
