Belfast Harbor Fest

BELFAST — The Belfast Rotary Club will hold its second annual Belfast Harbor Fest Friday through Sunday, Aug. 19-21. The National Boatbuilding Challenge will headline the weekend.

The weekend of events will kick off at 5 p.m. Friday with a Launch Party under the tent on Steamboat Landing at the foot of Commercial Street. Live music will be performed 6-11 p.m. Food and drink will be available for purchase. The party will be hosted by Three Tides. The cost is $10.

A pancake and sausage breakfast will be served 7:30-10 a.m. Saturday in the Boathouse. The cost is $4.

Registration for the Bug Run 5K road race will be held 7:30-8:15 a.m. Saturday with the race beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Commercial Street.

The National Boatbuilding Challenge will take place 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday under the tent on Steamboat Landing. Teams of two will have up to four hours to construct a wooden skiff, then test their boats in a relay race across the harbor. Spectators are welcome to watch the competition with no admission fee.

Come Boating!, Belfast’s community boating program, will hold its 11th annual Rowing Regatta as part of the Belfast Harbor Fest. There will be races for adults and youth with awards given in various classes. Any type of rowed or paddled craft may participate. Registration fee is $20 adults, $5 ages 13 to 18. Among the other all-day events planned with no admission fee are a Classic Small Boat Show, maritime exhibits, children’s activities, live music, a fishing tournament and vendors.

Habitat for Humanity of Waldo County will hold its Habitat Lobster Fest noon-3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $25 each for lobster (steak will be available for those who don’t enjoy lobster), clams, corn on the cob, chips and homemade pies.
