Adult cats on sale at humane society

ROCKLAND — For a limited time, starting Friday, Aug. 12, the Humane Society of Knox County will help adult cats cruise into new homes. Cats age 1 year and older are available to qualified

adopters with zero down, zero percent financing and no payments.

These certified pre-owned cats come in an assortment of colors and designs and with a multipoint inspection that includes spay-neuter surgery, age appropriate vaccinations, flea treatment and a medical evaluation.

“Although we lose money on every adoption, we are motivated to offer incentives through fun promotions like ‘Certified Pre-Owned Cats’ to remind people of the many wonderful adult cats that we have at the shelter and to find permanent, caring homes for

all of them” said Tracy Sala, executive director.

The limited-time, no-cost cat adoption promotion is being introduced to correspond with the challenging summer months when animal welfare organizations, such asTHOMA HSKC, are

overwhelmed with the sheer number of homeless cats and kittens brought to their doors.

HSKC has more than 100 adult cats and 80-plus kittens waiting for homes. “It’s especially difficult during the summer because adult cats are in competition with the adorable, newer models: kittens” said Sala. “Adults can languish in the shelter,

increasing the likelihood of the spread of illness. We want to find them homes sooner rather than later.

“We are waiving the adoption fee to help these great cats find homes and to make room available to shelter and care for the lost and abandoned cats we inevitably receive every day,” said Sala. “The shelter is literally crawling with cats! They really need forever homes of their own.”

For those who cannot adopt but want to help, cash donations are welcome to help offset the funding lost through this special promotion. Donations may be sent to PO Box 1294,

Rockland, ME 04841.

For information about spaying or neutering your pet or to inquire about adopting an animal, call the Humane Society of Knox County at 594-2200, the shelter is located at 17 Buttermilk Lane in Thomaston and is open to the public 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-
