UNITY, Maine — The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association will hold a free presentation and discussion with Dan Kittredge, director of the Real Food Campaign, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at MOFGA’s Common Ground Education Center, 294 Crosby Brook Road. The event theme will be “Nutrient-Dense Crop Production,” a way of creating nutrient-rich soil to produce high-quality food for human and animal consumption.

The presentation will acquaint people with the work of the Real Food Campaign, introduce a course for commercial farmers, which will be offered at MOFGA in one-day sessions 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, and March 7. The cost of the course is $150, and substantial financial aid is available because of a grant from the Lattner Foundation, to make it possible for those farmers who want to attend to be able to do so.

Participants in the course will receive a course handbook and supplemental monthly e-newsletters to provide a comprehensive learning experience. Enrollment is limited to 20 farmers, and early registration is recommended.

The mission of the Real Food Campaign is to increase the quality of the food supply. Those who share this concern are invited to attend the free introductory meeting at MOFGA on Aug. 24, whether or not they plan to attend the course.

For more information or to register for the course and apply for financial aid may email Douglas Williams, course administrator, at doug@realfoodcampaign.org or call 603-924-7008. Those wanting to register who can pay the full fee may do so with a credit card online at http://realfoodcampaign.org/workshop-series-2011-2012.
