BANGOR, Maine — A local man and woman escaped serious injury Sunday when the truck they were in rolled over on the northbound ramp onto Interstate 95 from Union Street, according to the Maine State Police.

Richard Wood, 47, was driving the 1995 Toyota pickup truck owned by his passenger, Ginger Pelkey, 34, of Bangor, preparing to merge with traffic on I-95 about 11:30 a.m., Sgt. Sean Hashey said.

When the car directly in front of Wood suddenly stopped, he hit the brake but his front wheel locked and sent the truck into a slide, Hashey said. The pickup hit the concrete base to a streetlamp that is not longer there and rolled over completely, landing back on its wheels.

Both Wood and Pelkey were wearing seat belts, the sergeant said.

She was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bangor for minor injuries, he said.

The truck was demolished.
