Massachusetts routs Waldo County stars in Senior League regional

WEST DEPTFORD, N.J. — Starting pitcher Dan Cobban and reliever Andrew Currie combined on a five inning two-hitter, striking out seven and walking only one to help Quincy, Mass., down the Waldo County Senior League all-stars 10-0 Saturday at Union Field.

Cobban struck out five and walked one in 3 ⅓ innings of work, and Currie pitched the final 1 ⅔ innings to record the win.

With the win, Quincy is now 2-0 in the tournament after beating Stony Point, N.Y. 6-0 on Friday. They are scheduled to play Sunday at 5 p.m. against the winner of Saturday’s 4:45 p.m. game between Felton-Harrington, Del., and Wyoming, Penn.

Waldo County is now 0-1 and will face the host team West Deptford, N.J., in an elimination game on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

After stranding two on the base paths against Waldo County starter Dillon Corliss in the first, Quincy answered back with a four-run second inning highlighted by a two-run single to left field off the bat of Pat Verhault, and a two-run double the next at-bat from Andrew Jaehnig.

Quincy went on to score three runs in each of the third and fourth innings. The third was highlighted by Tom Garland’s two-run double to right field, and Josh Hayward hit an RBI single to center to cap the fourth.

Nick Rodgerson and Garth Clements each singled for Waldo County.
