BREWER, Maine — Rocks were thrown through store windows of three Wilson Street businesses early Friday morning, causing thousands of dollars in damage, Brewer police Capt. Jason Moffitt said.

The rocks smashed windows at McDonald’s, Dairy Queen, Pizza Hut and a vehicle that was parked behind a nearby business, he said.

Using video surveillance and accounts of an eyewitness, “we determined the time period as around 3:38 a.m.” for one of the criminal mischief crimes, Moffitt said. A person can be seen In one of the videos, he added.

Whether the vandalism was connected to the store windows broken by rocks near the Bangor Mall on Tuesday and Wednesday nights was not immediately known, but police are looking into the possibility.

The incidents could be connected, Moffitt said. “It’s too soon to tell at this point. Our detectives are reaching out to Bangor.”

A vandal or vandals caused more than $20,000 in damage in Bangor when rocks were used to break windows at Wendy’s, Uno’s Chicago Grill, Applebee’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill and Bangor Mall Cinema 10. Wendy’s was hit Tuesday night, and windows were broken at the other three on Wednesday night, according to Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards.

Because of the amount of damage in both Bangor and Brewer, the person or persons who threw the rocks could face felony charges, Edwards and Moffitt said.

The cost to replace the broken windows on Wilson Street is more than $7,000, Moffitt estimated, adding it could be more.

Nothing was reported stolen from the vandalized businesses in Brewer.

Moffitt said detectives would like to speak to anyone who was in the area around 3:40 a.m. Friday. Those with information may call the Brewer Police Department at 989-7003.

Those with information about the Bangor vandalism may call the Bangor Police Department at 947-7382. The department’s anonymous tip line can be reached by pressing ext. 6, and Detective Cliff Worcester, who is investigating the incidents, can be reached at ext. 95721.
