Gospel concert set for Milbridge

MILBRIDGE, Maine — The Puffers, George and Darleen, will present a Gospel Concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug 13, at the Faith Bible Fellowship Church, Back Bay Road in Milbridge. All are welcome.

Fishermen’s Association to host fish bake

TENANTS HARBOR, Maine — The Midcoast Fishermen’s Association will host its 5th annual Fish Bake from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at the St. George Town Office. The dinner will include baked stuffed fish, red potatoes, salad, rolls and homemade desserts prepared by fishermen and their families and friends. Meals will be by donation with all proceeds benefiting the association and the small boat-fishing communities of Maine.

The association identifies and fosters ways to restore our groundfish fishery and sustain fishing communities along Maine’s coast for future generations. It is proudly supported by the Island Institute. Fish for the benefit will be provided by Port Clyde Fresh Catch and local fishermen. Apprenticeshop in Rockland to hold free sailing and rowing workshop

ROCKLAND, Maine — The Apprenticeshop invites the public for an evening of free sailing and rowing 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, on Rockland Harbor. Visitors will have the opportunity to try a variety of boats, including the Apprenticeshop-built 25’ Crotch Island Pinky Ruth, and the 16’ Wianno Junior, Oh Mona, as well as a 17’ Cape Cod Knockabout, several wooden rowboats and modern sailing keelboats. Rockland Community Sailing’s fleet of Optimist pram and Collegiate 420 sailing dinghies also will be available for youth to try. A tour of all three floors of the boatbuilding shop will round out the offerings. No prior experience required, life jackets will be available and visitors will be matched with experienced yachtsmen. Those interested should come dressed for the weather. The event is part of the monthly series, Second Thursdays at The Apprenticeshop, and is a re-scheduling of a similar event in June that was rained out. The Apprenticeshop, a school for traditional boat building and seamanship, is located at 643 Main St. and offers a variety of courses for both adults and children in boat building and sailing. George Mitchell will be special guest at Hancock Auction

HANCOCK, Maine — The 7th Annual Great Democracy Auction, to benefit the local Democratic Party, will take place 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Monteux School of Music in Hancock off Route 1. Special guest will be former Senator George Mitchell.

This year will feature antiques, gift certificates to area stores, lobster pounds and restaurants, services, catered meals, B&B stays, signed political memorabilia and more.
