Pharmacy residency program begins in Bangor

BANGOR, Maine — Penobscot Community Health Care now is offering a clinic-based community pharmacy residency program that is designed to provide future pharmacists with hands-on experience, Mary-Anne Saxl, community outreach coordinator, said in a press release.

“This program provides the training for educating community pharmacists and accelerates their learning process,” said Chris Gauthier, the pharmacy residency director.

The first resident pharmacist is Ashley Pincins, a University of Rhone Island College of Pharmacy graduate. “I chose this residency program because it relies strongly on teaching patients and helping them to understand the role their prescriptions take in their personal health care.”

The residency program will be based at the Penobscot Community Health Center campus on Union Street.

“There is a need in rural areas for highly trained personnel,” Gauthier said. “Many Mainers have to travel distances to receive prescriptions and may not have an opportunity to talk with providers [about] their prescriptions.”
