Wardens recover body of missing Massachusetts swimmer

HIRAM, Maine – Maine Warden Service divers have foiund and recovered the body of a Massachusetts woman who was reported missing after she failed to return from a swim on Stanley Pond.

Kathleen Whitehouse, 47, of Malden, Mass., was found about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Edie Smith, spokeswoman for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, said in a news release issued early Wednesday evening.

Whitehouse last had been seen swimming in the small Knox County pond on Tuesday evening. The Maine Warden Service launched a search early Wednesday morning that included divers, tracking dogs and an aircraft.

Whitehouse was in Maine with family, Smith said. She was reported missing when she did not return to her camp as expected on Tuesday. Her body was taken to the medical examiner’s office to determine a cause of death.
