Museum slide talk to be held in Owls Head

OWLS HEAD, Maine — A slide talk by the Penobscot Marine Museum’s photo archivist Kevin Johnson will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11 at the Owls Head Community Building, 224 Ash Point Drive. The talk, sponsored by the Mussel Ridge Historical Society, will feature 75- to 100-year-old photos of the communities from the museum’s Eastern Illustrating collection as well as photographs from its Elmer Montgomery collection. The event is free but donations will be accepted and light refreshments will be served.

HOME annual auction planned for Aug. 13

ORLAND, Maine — H.O.M.E. Inc. will hold its annual auction beginning with a preview at 11 a.m. and the auction at noon, Saturday, Aug. 13, at H.O.M.E. on Route 1. A children’s fair will be held 9 a.m.-noon that day. The auction includes a Boston Red Sox baseball signed by Jonathan Papelbon, an antique roll-top desk, gift certificates, tools, furniture, a truck with plow and other items. Proceeds benefits H.O.M.E.’s seven homeless shelters in the area.

Coast Guard boating safety course set for Trescott

TRESCOTT, Maine — The Cobscook Community Learning Center will host a 7-week U.S. Coast Guard Boating Safety course from noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays, starting Aug. 13 through Oct. 1, at 10 Commissary Point Road in Trescott. USCG’s course will address boating laws, safety equipment, boating practices and problems. The price of the course is $30 per person. Prospect Club to host baked bean supper

PROSPECT, Maine — The Prospect Community Club is sponsoring a baked bean and casserole supper from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Prospect Community Center, corner of routes 1A and 174 in Prospect. The menu includes beans, hot dogs, casseroles, salads, pies, cakes and beverages. The price is $6 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under.
