HAMPDEN, Maine — Personnel from the Hampden Police Department and the Maine State Police launched a search Wednesday night for an elderly resident of Avalon Village, a retirement community located off U.S. Route 1A.

The search began shortly after 7:30 p.m., when relatives of an elderly woman residing at Avalon Village reported her missing, Hampden police Officer William Miller said late Wednesday night. It was suspended around 10 p.m. and will resume Thursday morning.

Miller said the woman’s family members last heard from her about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night by email. She could not be found when they visited her home on Wednesday evening, he said.

The woman left a note behind and her car was in her driveway, Miller said, adding that another reason for concern was that she has known medical problems.

Also assisting in the search were Avalon Village employees, who checked out nearby walking trails, Miller said.
