Book Bus to visit Kev-Lan

BANGOR, Maine — The mobile literacy program Bess The Book Bus will visit Kev-Lan Corner Citgo station with “Success in Sight Tour” from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 1110 Broadway in Bangor. Volunteers will be handing out new books and local author Angeli Perrow will be signing copies of her books for local families. For more information, call 973-132.

Manna collecting donated school supplies

BANGOR, Maine — Manna, Inc., will begin collecting donated school supplies to distribute to children throughout central Maine for the coming school year. Donated items include backpacks, binders, calculators, pencils, pens, notebooks, glue sticks and rulers. School supplies should be brought to the Manna office at 629 Main St. in Bangor. BDN editor to speak at Greenville Historical Society

GREENVILLE, Maine — Moosehead Roots and Historical Society will welcome Bangor Daily News editor Roxanne Moore Saucier for a presentation at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Center for Moosehead History, in the village. Saucier will explain her connection to the Waldens of Greenville through genealogy searches and resources. Donations are gratefully accepted.

UMaine Extension hosts home energy-saving webinars Aug. 30

ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension, in conjunction with Efficiency Maine and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, will offer a three free webinars at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30 on reducing heating and other energy costs in homes and apartments. The three webinars are Home Energy Use at 9 a.m.; Easy ways to Reduce Energy Use at 10:30 a.m. and Comparing Fuels and Alternative Energy Systems at 1:30 p.m. Participants may choose to attend the live segments or view at a later time.
