What a great summer, so far! ” says Old Town photographer Dave Small. “I hope you’re all enjoying it.” The Southwest Harbor Butterfly Garden provided some wonderful opportunities, he said, “to capture a few immature (male) ruby-throated hummingbirds and a monarch butterfly. The bee in a bull thistle and the hermit thrush were taken in the Bangor City Forest and Orono Bog Boardwalk. The thrushes have eluded me, but I keep trying to get a close-up … The male spruce grouse, with all its summer finery, was strutting along the Stud Mill Road near Costigan at the Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge. It was a treat for me to see him.”
