Portrait workshop at Woodlawn Museum
ELLSWORTH, Maine — R. David Patterson will conduct a daylong portrait workshop 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at Woodlawn Museum on Route 172.
For beginners or artists looking for a refresher, no previous experience is required. The cost for Woodlawn members is $80, for nonmembers $90.

Conservancy’s Blueberry Festival to begin Aug. 20
MACHIAS, Maine — Visit the Downeast Coastal Conservancy’s kiosk and activity center during the Machias Blueberry Festival, featuring animal puppet shows and birdhouse building for kids.
Information from area hiking guides, a new brochure, and information on the conservancy’s new projects and volunteer opportunities will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, and 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, Aug. 21, in downtown Machias.

Cancer center to sponsor annual barbecue
ORLAND, Maine— The Cancer Support Center of Maine, located in Bucksport, will hold its third annual barbecue from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at Alamoosook Lakeside Inn, 229 Soper Road in Orland.
Tickets are $25 each and are available at Frank’s Bake Shop on State Street in Bangor, BookStacks and the Cancer Support Center of Maine, both on Main Street in Bucksport.
The center’s mission is to assist Maine women and men and their loved ones who are confronting cancer and helping empower communities through outreach and education about cancer risk reduction.

Belfast adult ed recruiting for fall semester
BELFAST, Maine — The College Connection, a program of Belfast Adult and Community Education that offers academically intense college preparation for adults, is recruiting for its fall semester which starts on Monday, Sept. 12.
The College Connection is designed to help nontraditional adult students refresh English and math skills, build self-confidence and learn what is necessary to succeed in college. The program also provides assistance with the college enrollment process, including Accuplacer testing, financial aid and college application paperwork, college and career counseling, college tours and more.
The College Connection is funded in part by a state grant and Belfast Adult and Community Education. The program is free; however, students are responsible for purchasing books needed for courses.

JONESPORT, Maine — The summer meeting of the Washington County Historic and Genealogical Society will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, in the new Jonesport Historical Society room in the former Sawyer-Worcester building at Sawyer Square.
