Caribou Public Library celebrates 100 years

CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou Public Library will celebrate 100 years of library services with an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at 30 High St.

The library will host special guest Donn Fendler, who will be on hand to discuss his harrowing adventures as a young boy and being lost on Mount Katahdin as depicted in Joseph B. Egan’s book “Lost on a Mountain in Maine.” Fendler also will sign books, which will be available for $6 each.

Staff members will be dressed in period clothing and participants are invited to dress in period clothing.

Pet Rescue to host Appreciation Day

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Halfway Home Pet Rescue, in cooperation with the Houlton Humane Shelter and The Tractor Supply Store Pet Appreciation Day, will host a Pet Adoption Day for dogs and cats 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at The Tractor Supply Store.

As well as adoptable pets, there will be door prizes and a table of handmade purses designed with dogs, cats and John Deere tractors for sale.
