FREEPORT, Maine — Laura Plaisted and Nolan Hood, winners of the inaugural Real Maine Wedding of the Year contest, have one remaining aspect of their wedding set to be finalized by public vote. Most recently, a decision was made on the couples’ honeymoon, with the public choosing a trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic by Dragonfly Travel. Now through Aug. 11, members of the public can vote on the couples’ wedding bands from Brown Goldsmiths in Freeport.

To vote for Plaisted and Hood’s wedding bands, visit www.realmaineweddings.com and click on the Real Maine Wedding of the Year contest page. Three different options for the rings are up for vote. The first two options are wedding bands that have been selected by Plaisted and Hood. The third option allows the couple to design their own wedding bands with the help of jewelry experts from Brown Goldsmiths.

“Having members of the public decide particular elements of Laura and Nolan’s wedding has been fascinating,” Melanie Brooks, editor of Real Maine Weddings magazine, said in a recent news release. “It brings an entirely new dynamic to the process of wedding planning, and we’re hearing a lot of feedback from people who have done the actual online voting as well. I think it’s making everyone — especially Laura and Nolan — really excited about their wedding day this fall.”

The couples’ wedding bands will be the last aspect of the wedding voted upon. In addition to honeymoon destination, vote has determined traditional ties for the groomsmen by Classic Tuxedo, invitations by Hullabaloo Studios, traditional charm decor by Sweetest Things Event Design Studio and a dress designed by Alfred Angelo from Bridals by Sandy.

Plaisted and Hood had been away from each other since submitting their video to the Real Maine Wedding of the Year contest in January. Hood has served his country for the past year as staff sergeant in the Army National Guard and has just recently returned home from serving with the Army Infantry’s Provencal Reconstruction Team stationed in Afghanistan. Staff Sgt. Hood was treated to a welcome home event at the end of July hosted by Linda Bean’s Maine Kitchen in Freeport.
