HAMPTON BEACH, N.H. — A message in a bottle tossed into the ocean off the coast of New Hampshire more than a half-century ago has been found in the Caribbean.

Paula Pierce, owner of the Beachcomber Motel in Hampton Beach, says when she got a call recently about the message she had no idea what the person on the other end was talking about.

But when she saw the message online, she recognized her father’s handwriting. It reads “Return to 419 Ocean Boulevard and receive a $150 reward from Tina, owner of the Beachcomber.”

It was found recently by Clint Buffington in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Pierce tells WMUR-TV her father threw the bottle in the water to tease his wife.

Pierce says it’s “mind boggling” the bottle lasted so long.
