Waldo County Senior League wins two

BANGOR — Waldo County scored five runs in the fourth inning and cruised to an 8-2 all-star baseball win over Coastal Sunday at Mansfield Stadium, forcing an if-necessary game Monday to determine the Senior League State Champion.

Waldo topped Scarborough Saturday 11-1 in five innings for the right to play Coastal.

In State Junior League action, South Portland eliminated Ellsworth 12-2 Saturday and played Bangor in the championship round Sunday.

In Sunday’s Senior League game, Adam Higgins doubled, singled and drove in two runs for 2-1 Waldo County. Matt Palmer tripled and singled and Nick Rodgerson added two singles and an RBI. Dillon Corliss tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five.

Finn McMahon-Alwine, Sam Grindle, Connor Morey and Hayden Ciomei each singled for 1-1 Coastal.

In Saturday’s Senior League game, Waldo County’s Adam Higgins held Scarborough to one run one five hits and two walks with six strikeouts in the run-ruled-shortened game.

Matt Palmer had a triple, single and an RBI for Waldo County. Buddy Ellis doubled and singled and Luke Lockhart added two singles with an RBI.

Ryan Collins led 1-2 Scarborough with two singles.

In Saturday’s Junior League game, Matt Beecher had a triple, two singles and knocked in a run to lead 1-1 South Portland. Jacob Brown and Henry Curran both had two singles and two RBIs. Sam Soloman singled twice with an RBI and Bryan Currie had a run-scoring double.

Curran pitched 5 2/3 innings allowed two runs on two hits while striking out five.

Ben Lee hit an RBI double for 1-2 Ellsworth.
