CAMDEN — Committee members of the Penobscot Bay Rendezvous have been working since February creating a four-day sail and power event, the Penobscot Bay Rendezvous, Thursday through Sunday, Aug, 18-21.

Hosts for the event are Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding of Thomaston and Wayfarer Marine of Camden. Guests will have access to behind-the-scenes tours of the two boatyards. Lyman-Morse will host Thursday night’s dinner featuring fireworks, and Wayfarer Marine has hired a seven-piece dance band from Boston to provide the flare for Saturday night’s Surf and Turf dinner dance sponsored by Stephens Waring Yacht Design.

Committee member Tom Babbitt of East Coast Yacht Sales proposed a Photo Pursuit for powerboats. The Photo Pursuit is a scavenger hunt where photogenic targets are captured with a digital camera. Friday’s Photo Pursuit will feature targets surrounding Rockland Harbor and points north and east toward Camden Harbor. Saturday’s course will include targets surrounding Camden Harbor and as far north as Lincolnville Beach and Islesboro. Each night contestants will download their best images with a team of Photo Pursuit techies who will create a slide show of the day’s images. A panel of judges, including photographers Billy Black and Camden’s Alison Langley, plus Dan Bookham, executive director of the Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce, and Charles Altschul, president of the Maine Media Workshops and College, and others will be charged with judging the work. The top three photographs will be announced at Sunday’s Awards Ceremony. Langley and Black will attend the event, giving the Rendezvous’ participants and photography enthusiasts the opportunity to get feedback from them. A Poker Run will wrap up the event for powerboats on Sunday.

The registration fee for two people is $360. Fee for extra guests is $180 each.

A limited number of sail-only tickets will be offered for $180 per boat for those interested only in racing or the powerboat events.
