Summer is in full swing in the midcoast. Temperatures have soared to too-hot-to-order-ice-cream levels (melts faster than you can eat it) and dropped back to “comfortable” with the arrival of cooler ocean breezes. The adage, “If you don’t like the weather, just wait a minute” holds true, but, we think it’s a darned nice summer.
Driving around we see the spring crop of farm animals growing to adulthood in rural fields, grapes clustering on vines at local vineyards, boats sailing the bay, diners filling decks and golfers sneaking out of work early.
Speaking of golf, plans for our 9@Night Golf Social is in full swing, too. In this season of tournaments, we like to point out that this is a tournament with a “twist,” and we know we have a great following of folks who especially enjoy the level of fun that can be found at this event — for golfers and nongolfers alike.
Held this year on Friday, Aug. 26, at the Rockland Golf Club, the nine-hole scramble is designed for fun. The first six holes are played after a celebratory lobster-steak dinner and social hour — the last three holes are played after dark (think glow-in-the-dark balls, flashlights, glow sticks and summer evening breezes).
Pros and novices are encouraged to participate. The only rule is that players must bring their sense of humor. With a hole-in-one contest (an opportunity to win a new car), a “putt off” (with a chance to win $5,000), a 50-50 raffle, door prizes and more, participants will have opportunities to win cool stuff, network and enjoy.
Fuller Chevrolet-GMC Inc. is our lead and hole-in-one sponsor, providing a chance for each player to win an all-wheel-drive, 2011 Chevy Equinox. Cellardoor Winery Inc. is sponsoring our “Putt Off,” giving one lucky player a chance to win $5,000. Wallace T and Party Rental is sponsoring the ever popular Beverage Cart, and Schooner Bay Limo & Taxi is providing Designated Drivers for the evening.
Hole sponsors include Maritime Energy, J. Edward Knight & Co., All Aboard Trolley & Limousine Co., All-4-U Inc., Kinney Rentals, E.L. Spear Inc., LimeRock Inn, Maine Eastern Railroad, McMahon Builders, LLC, Coastal Communications Inc., Maine-ly Concrete and Rockland Savings Bank, FSB. Horch Roofing has joined us this year as our bug spray sponsor.
Foursomes or individual players ($300 and $75 respectively) may register by calling the Chamber office in Rockland at 596-0376 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Interested in helping to sponsor the event? There are still spots available.
Don’t be left in the dark! Sign up with some of your buddies or co-workers. Remember: The Chamber’s annual 9@Golf Social is all about the FUN.
