Coastal, Bangor all-star teams advance


BANGOR — The Coastal Senior League all-stars and Bangor Junior League all-stars advanced to the championship round of their respective tourneys with baseball victories at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor Friday.
Coastal beat Scarborough 9-5 in the Senior League tourney and Bangor shut out Ellsworth 2-0 in the Junior League tourney.
On Saturday, Waldo will play Scarborough at 4 p.m. in a Senior League elimination game, while South Portland will take on Ellsworth at 7 p.m. in Junior League. The winners of both games advance to the championship round on Sunday as the Senior League winner will play Coastal at 4 p.m., followed by the Junior League winner against Bangor at 7 p.m.
The if-necessary games for both divisions will be played on Monday if either Coastal or Bangor lose on Sunday.
In Friday’s Senior League game, Sam Grindle pitched six shutout innings, allowing four hits, not walking a batter and striking out three for Coastal. Coastal scored seven runs on two hits in the first two innings, aided by four walks and two errors.
Scott Barker and Loriman Looke each singled twice for the winners with Looke driving in two runs and Barker plating one. Hayden Ciomei added a double.
Erim Pemberton singled twice for Scarborough.
In Friday’s Junior League game, Justin Courtney pitched a three-hit shutout with no walks and eight strikeouts to propel Bangor. Courtney also scored the only run his team would need in the second when he singled, went to second on an infield error and scored on Alec Coleman’s RBI single.
Bangor added an insurance run in the sixth when Jordan Derrah hit a one-out single, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on an infield error.
Nick Kennedy, Mitchell Domagala and Gage Feeney each singled for Ellsworth.
