NEWPORT, Maine — A military funeral service is being held for a 19-year-old soldier from Maine who was killed in Afghanistan.

Services for Pfc. Tyler Springmann are being held Friday at Nokomis Regional High in Newport, where he graduated in 2010. Burial with military honors will be held after the funeral at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Dexter.

Springmann died July 17 in Kandahar following a roadside blast that also claimed another Marine’s life and injured seven others. He was assigned to a combat team of the 25th Infantry Division at Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

Gov. Paul LePage has directed that U.S. and state of Maine flags be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset in Springmann’s honor.
