AUGUSTA, Maine — A 29-year-old Massachusetts man is being held without bail after making his first court appearance on two counts of murder.
Joel Hayden of New Bedford did not enter a plea Thursday in Cumberland County Superior Court. He’s charged with Monday’s fatal shooting of 27-year-old Renee Sandora of New Gloucester and 28-year-old Trevor Mills of New Bedford, Mass., outside Sandora’s home.
Police say Sandora and Hayden have four children together and that Mills was a longtime friend of Hayden. According to an affidavit, Sandora’s parents told investigators Sandora had recently kicked Hayden out of their home, and that Sandora had told them Hayden had accused her of having a relationship with Mills.
Autopsies were performed Thursday, but the medical examiner’s office said the results aren’t being released.
