BRISTOL, Conn. — The Hermon all-star softball team advanced to the quarterfinal round of the East Region Little League tourney for ages 11-12 with an 11-4 victory over Swanton, Vt., Wednesday.
Hermon used three pitchers — Karli Theberge, Alessa Oakes, and Alexis MacManus — to hold Vermont to only three hits and four runs, with their offense pounded out 11 hits. Theberge was credited with the win.
Oakes and Sydney Addessi each had two hits and scored two runs to lead Hermon at the plate.
Hailey Perry, Alexis MacManus and Emily Perley each had two hits, and Perry and Perley had two RBIs apiece.
“We finally got our hitting going today, and our fielding was great,” Hermon coach Jody Theberge said.
Hermon’s aggressive style on the basepaths has been limited a bit due to the quality of pitchers and catchers at the New England level, according to Jody Theberge, but nine of Hermon’s 12 players scored a run against Vermont.
Hermon improved to 3-1 after its final pool-play game in the New England Division, and will play on Thursday at 2 p.m. against either Lynn, Mass., Cumberland, R.I., or Fairfield, Conn.
Hermon has beaten both Massachusetts and Rhode Island in pool play, but lost to Connecticut.
A victory by Hermon puts it in Friday’s semifinal round.
