Westbrook settles suit with fired fire chief

WESTBROOK, Maine — The Maine city of Westbrook has agreed to a settlement with former Fire Chief Daniel Brock who was fired after Mayor Colleen Hilton took office.

Brock sued the city last year after Hilton failed to reappoint him. He claims the city violated its charter and wrongfully discharged him.

Hilton told the Portland Press Herald not rehiring Brock was the right thing to do.

Two female firefighters claimed they were sexually harassed before Brock became chief and they won an $846,000 settlement. Hilton felt Brock wasn’t the right person to turn the department around.

Brock, 63, has said he would drop the suit if the city paid about $330,000 in pay and benefits.

No one will describe the settlement.

The city council is expected to vote on the settlement Monday.
