Maine police shooting video removed from Internet

The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — A video showing a police shooting in Portland that wounded a man as he sped by officers in his car has been removed from the Internet.

Attorneys for Jonathan Mitchell created a website with footage taken from a police cruiser to bolster their contention that police had no reason to fire at him April 10. Mitchell was shot in the neck and shoulder and is now suing police.

Mitchell’s attorney, J.P. DeGrinney, tells the Portland Press Herald that the website has now been taken down, but he declined to say why.

Police shot at Mitchell after responding to a report he had broken into his ex-wife’s apartment in Portland. Mitchell, who lives in Veazie, is facing reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and other charges.
