OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine — The fire department in Maine’s Old Orchard Beach is trying to raise the money for a piece of training equipment that bleeds, cries and takes an injection.

The “Smart State Manikin” costs about $20,000.

Firefighters said the mannequin is a realistic model of a 150-pound human with lifelike heart and lung sounds and its eyes tear, its pupils dilate and it simulates bleeding.

Firefighter Don Pelletier told the Portland Press Herald the department decided to raise funds for the equipment rather than ask for it in the training budget because of the tough economic times.
