BEALS – Sandra Marie Beal, 61, a longtime resident of Beals Island, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011, in Machias. Sandra was born July 28, 1949, in Jonesport, to Edward and Janet (Bubar) Beal.

On Dec. 21, 1967, she married her childhood sweetheart, Anthony L. Beal Sr. of Beals. Not only did Sandra and Anthony grow up together, but they also fostered an exceptional life complete with children, family and friends through hard work, determination and self-reliance. Sandra believed that a home filled with love, kindness and enjoyment was far more important than a home filled with material possessions. She taught her children the value of patience, understanding, forgiveness and honesty, and the determination to succeed. She opened her home and her heart to her children’s many friends and encouraged them as she did her own to do their best and never give up. Sandra was passionate about her little beauties, Lauren, Leah, Hannah and Morgan. She loved and cherished the frequently used namesake "Mimmie!" She enjoyed attending their many activities, including vacation Bible school and swim lessons. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, a time when all her family could gather together and celebrate life, love and togetherness. Sandra enjoyed many of life’s simple pleasures, such as planting flowers, watching figure-skating, sitting with her Siamese cats, going for a ride with her husband or chatting with friends, especially her beloved sister, over a cup of coffee. One of Sandra’s favorite summertime activities was picking blueberries with her granddaughters. Sandra is remembered by her family, friends and co-workers as being selfless in her service and love to all. In her 24 years as a certified nursing assistant at Sunrise Nursing Care Facility, she earned a reputation of excellence and endurance in serving the people she loved.

She is survived by her husband, Anthony L. Beal Sr. of Beals; son, Anthony L. Beal Jr. and wife, Allison, of Beals; daughter, Janette Erickson and husband, Ian, of Thomaston; brother, Cliff Beal and companion, Loida, of Addison; sister, Valerie Smorch and husband, Dennis, of Beals; grandchildren, Lauren Marie Beal and Leah Jane Beal of Beals and Hannah Beal Erickson and Morgan Janette Erickson of Thomaston; very special nephew, Scott Smorch; very special niece, Lesley Lewark and husband, Michael; nieces, Lindsey Reay and Alissa Beal; great-nieces, Lily Janette Lewark and Michaela Lorraine Reay; and best friend, Jenny Fagonde.

A service of remembrance is scheduled 2 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at Wesleyan Church, Beals Island, with Pastor George Woodward officiating. Sandra will be greatly missed, but her good work will continue through those she loved. A service of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home. Remembrances may be sent to
