GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — A Grand Prairie man opened fire on his estranged wife Saturday evening, then gunned down four members of her family at a private birthday party before killing himself, Grand Prairie police said Sunday.

The couple had been hosting the party at a roller-skating rink for one of their two children. Both were unharmed.

Grand Prairie police identified the man as Tan Do, 35. He was pronounced dead at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas from a gunshot wound to the head.

His victims were his estranged wife, Trini Do, 29, of Grand Prairie; her two sisters, Lynn Ta, 16 and Michelle Ta, 28, of Grand Prairie; a brother, Hien Ta, 21; and a sister-in-law, Thuy Nguyen, 25.

The shooting occurred about 7 p.m. Saturday at Forum Roller World in Grand Prairie.

When they arrived Saturday night, Grand Prairie police found four people with gunshot wounds, the gunman with a gunshot wound to the head and five other people dead.

Investigators have determined that Tan Do and Trini Do’s martial problems led to the shooting.

About 30 people were in the roller rink to attend the private party, police said. No employees were injured in the shooting.

“The suspected gunman did die of a self-inflicted shot,” Grand Prairie Police Chief Steve Dye said Saturday night at a news conference outside the roller rink in a light industrial area near Arlington.
