Bangor Big Apple robbed again, police say

By Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — A masked man robbed the Big Apple store on State Street early Friday morning, Bangor police Sgt. Allen Hayden said.

“Someone entered the store, had a mask on and demanded money,” the sergeant said. “The clerk complied and the suspect left on foot.”

The incident, which occurred about 12:37 a.m., is listed as a strong-arm robbery, said Hayden, noting that the threat was verbal. No injures were reported and the amount of cash taken was not released.

Robberies have been reported at the convenience store every year for the last five years, Sgt. Paul Edwards said in April after another armed robbery at the store was reported. The robbery reported in 2007 was unfounded and the one reported on April 4 led to charges against a store clerk and her accomplice, Edwards has said.

The store is equipped with video surveillance cameras, but Hayden was not sure if images of the man who robbed the store early Friday would be made available.
