Boy who fell from second-story window now OK, police say

VINALHAVEN, Maine — A toddler who fell from a second-story window Wednesday night is back home recovering.

“I just talked to the baby’s mother and he is home and fine. No broken bones,” Knox County Sheriff Donna Dennison wrote in an email Friday morning. “Mom was very appreciative of how the community responded to help — something Maine communities are well known for.”

The 2-year-old boy was airlifted from his Vinalhaven home to Maine Medical Center in Portland after he pushed through a screen and fell out a window at about 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police at the time said the situation looked very serious.

“The baby fell about 15 feet to the ground and landed on tree roots that were sticking out of the ground,” wrote Knox County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Larry Hesseltine.

The sheriff’s office said the boy’s mother is Sarah Reynolds, but did not release the boy’s name.
