SEARSMONT, Maine — A Montville man died early Thursday morning after striking a deer with his motorcycle in Searsmont, according to the Maine State Police.

Richard L. Turner, Jr., 45, died from his injuries while being flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, said police spokesman Stephen McCausland.

Turner had been riding a 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle at about 4:40 a.m. on Thompson Ridge Road in Searsmont when he struck a deer in the road and then skidded into a large tree, according to Maine State Police Trooper Jonah O’Roak.

The accident took place not far from the intersection with Borough Road.

Speed and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash, police said.

Lt. David Tripp and Trooper Jonathan Russell also assisted in the crash investigation.
