SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — New England Patriots Hall of Fame linebacker Andre Tippett helped kick off a push to create a special Patriots license plate for Maine residents.

A likeness of the license plate was unveiled Wednesday at the Maine Mall in South Portland. Similar license plates are available in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

The event came hours after Myra Kraft, wife of Patriots owner Robert Kraft, died from cancer. Tippett described her as the matriarch of the Patriots family.

Maine Patriots license plates would cost an extra $35, with $25 going to the state for start-up costs of producing the plate and the remainder going to the Patriots Charitable Foundation. The foundation says its share would be earmarked for Maine nonprofits.
