All-star tourneys roundup: Old Town captures District 3 crown


OLD TOWN — Dana Ouellette hit an RBI single to highlight a two-run fourth inning as the Old Town all-stars defeated Holbrook 4-2 in a second-round championship game to claim the District 3 Little League baseball crown for ages 11-12 Wednesday.
With the win, Old Town advances to the Maine State 11-12 Little League State Tournament in Portland.
Austin Sheehan was walked in the fourth, Baxter Smith moved him over to third with a single, and Sheehan scored on a wild pitch to give Old Town a 3-2 lead. Ethan Stoddard then walked, and Ouellette drove him in with his single to put Old Town up 4-2.
Ouellette pitched five innings, striking out five before Smith took the mound in the sixth and retired Holbrook 1-2-3.
Jon Wood had a double, a solo home run in the third inning, and two RBIs to lead Holbrook. Danny Davis added two singles. Wood went five innings, striking out eight for Holbrook.

Coastal 8, Acadian 7

At Blue Hill, Coastal scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to break a 5-5 tie and held on for an 8-7 victory over Acadian to win the District 1 Senior League title.
Coastal advances to the state tournament to be held at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor beginning July 28.
Sam Grindle had a two-run double and Connor Morey added an RBI single in the top of the eighth. Colin Mooers tripled as part of a two-run rally by Acadian in the bottom of the inning.
Grindle finished with a double and two singles, while Mariner Cheney doubled and singled for Coastal and Hayden Ciomei singled twice.
Keegan McKim had four singles for Acadian, while Robbie Logue doubled and singled and Ben Walls and Steven Hanscom each singled twice.

Hermon 20, Ellsworth 4

At Glenburn, Hermon advanced to Friday’s semifinal round of the state Little League softball tournament for 9- and 10-year-olds with a four-inning victory over Ellsworth.
Scarborough and Lewiston also advanced with victories Thursday, with Scarborough topping Sanford 11-5 and Lewiston defeating Waldoboro 20-2.
Friday’s schedule has Lewiston against Scarborough at 3 p.m., followed by Sanford and Hermon at 5:30. Friday’s winners advance to the championship game at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
Hermon’s Olivia Nash pitched a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts in the win over Ellsworth. Brianne Oakes doubled and singled for the winners, while Nash tripled and Alex Allain doubled. Katey Bagley, Shelby Cote and Lanie Reid each singled for Ellsworth.
Scarborough’s Emily Jefferds pitched a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts against Sanford. Lauren Powell hit two doubles and two singles for Scarborough, while Jefferds singled twice and Felicia O’Reilly doubled and singled twice. Julia Allen singled for Sanford.
Danielle Cyr pitched a no-hitter for Lewiston against Waldoboro. Jordan Mynahan doubled twice with two RBIs for the winners, while Eliza Beaudoin hit an inside-the-park home run and Megan Theriault doubled and singled with three RBIs.
