VERLAN ‘HUNKY’ PORTER

CUTLER – Verlan "Hunky" Porter, 76, a lifetime resident of Cutler, passed away unexpectedly July 18, 2011, in Bangor. Hunky was born Oct. 18, 1934, in Cutler, to Frank and Marjorie (Peabody) Porter of Cutler.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Maxine (Dennison) Porter, also of Cutler; children, Curtis and wife, Deborah, of Buxton, Machelle "Shelly" Perreault and husband, Mike, of Charlotte, N.C., Michael and wife, Michelle, of Cutler, Kristan and wife, Brenda, of Cutler and Kerry and wife, Jenni, of Lake Mills, Wis.; brothers, Arthur of Cutler and Clifford of Augusta; sisters, Irvina Gould of Waldoboro and Linda Eldridge of Cutler; grandchildren, Jacob, Caleb, Gregory, Jessica, Brittan, Derrick, Whitney, Ashley, Brandon, Cal and Libby; great-grandson, Will; many nieces and nephews. He was also survived by longtime friend and business partner, John Farris, who are well known Downeast as Farris-Porter Construction. Hunky was predeceased by his parents; and sister, Elizabeth Wood.

Hunky loved spending time with family – especially his grandchildren, and camping at Timberland Acres with special friends. He was a 50-year member of Lookout Lodge No. 131 and Warren Lodge No. 2.

Visiting hours are scheduled 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 22, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Machias. The graveside committal will begin 1 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at New Cutler Cemetery, with a celebration of life afterward at Bay Ridge Elementary School.
