MARIE G. MILAN

BREWER – Marie G. Milan, 74, passed peacefully July 16, 2011, at home, after 41 months of pancreatic cancer treatments. Marie was born April 30, 1937, at home in Hampden, daughter of Harvey and Dorothy (Briggs) Gosselin.

She attended St. John’s School, was active on the first fundraising efforts of the Beano committee, and was a graduate of John Bapst High School, Class of 1955. She was one of the first dancers in the Polly Thomas School of Dance Traveling Troupe, dancing for Thomas for 17 years. Dance was truly her favorite hobby. She attended Husson College and worked for Ralph Dyer Real Estate as secretary for many years. She married and along with her husband, Charles Milan III, started Bangor Brewer Bowling Lanes in 1962. She was very active at the bowling lanes and made many lifelong friends. She started and ran the Junior and Senior Bowling programs and organized many Canadian-American events. She cherished all her "bowling alley friends." She was on the YWCA board and managed the Christmas Booth at the Y fair. She loved to entertain and took pride in her home, which was on the House Beautiful Tour three times and featured in a national magazine for its Christmas lights. Her husband and children were her mainstay and she loved them dearly.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Charlie; her daughter, Dawn Marie MacKay and her husband Timothy, and their children, Jonathan, Joshua and Joseph; her son, Charles Milan IV and his wife, Julie, and their children, Hope and Charles "Henry" Milan V; her son, John Milan and his friend, Renee Franklin, and his daughter, Tiffany; and her son, James Milan and his wife, Elizabeth, and their children, Olivia and Grace. She is also survived by her mother, Dorothy Gosselin; brother, Harvey Gosselin and wife, Annette; brother, Ed Gosselin and wife, Maggie; sister, Debbie Buswell and husband, Rodney; sister, Terry Tweedie and husband, Alan; two great-grandsons; sisters-in-law, Joan B. LaGasse and Lorraine Gosselin; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Dodo Bouchard and Margaret Cote; and many other friends. She was predeceased by her father, Harvey Gosselin; and her brother, Dewey Gosselin.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 531 North Main St., Brewer. At the request of Marie, family and friends are invited to celebrate her life with a party at the bowling lanes immediately after the Mass.
