PORTLAND, Maine — A Maine man on trial for shooting his roommate to death says he did it, describing for jurors the moment when he fired the gun.
Daudoit Butsitsi, 23, who’s charged in the February 2010 death of Serge Mulongo, says he acted in self defense.
Taking the stand at his murder trial in Cumberland County Superior Court on Monday, Butsitsi described being in his apartment building when he heard someone coming down the stairs and Mulongo talking. Butsitsi said another man jumped on his back and that he — Butstitsi — saw a gun in Mulongo’s hand, so he shot him.
Mulongo was shot six times in what prosecutors say was a revenge killing.
The Portland Press Herald says police found no gun on Mulongo’s body.
