Maine officials seek support for center upgrade

The Associated Press

RAYMOND, Maine — Hoping to generate support for a $33 million renovation of the Cumberland County Civic Center, county commissioners are hearing from the public on the topic.

At a hearing Monday night in Raymond, some people spoke in favor of the plan and others called it too expensive for taxpayers.

Commissioners have said that if the 35-year-old building isn’t upgraded, it could cost money for repairs and lost revenues.

WCSH-TV reported that commissioners will vote Aug. 8 whether to hold a referendum on borrowing money to pay for the work.
