Dozens of tires reported stolen in Bangor

By Dawn Gagnon, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — City police are investigating the reported theft of dozens of tires from a Thatcher Street business.

The burglary at Bennett Tire occurred sometime after Sunday afternoon and was discovered after the business opened on Monday, Sgt. Paul Edwards of the Bangor Police Department said Tuesday in a news release.

Though the number of stolen tires still was being tallied late Tuesday afternoon, their dollar value is estimated to be in the range of several thousands of dollars, Edwards said. At least 60 to 80 tires were stolen, most of them automobile or light truck snow tires in a range of sizes.

The incident remains under investigation, Edwards said.

Anyone with information about this incident, who saw anything suspicious in the area or who knows the identity of those involved or location of the tires is urged to call Officer Eric Tourtelotte at 947-7382, ext. 95759. To leave an anonymous message on the department’s Tip Line, press 6.
