Commemoration of bombing to be held in Bangor


BANGOR, Maine — — A commemoration of the 66th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at Peirce Park, next to the Bangor Public Library on Harlow Street.

Members of the Peace & Justice Center of Eastern Maine invite the public to the event, which will include readings and a symbolic “die-in.”

The commemoration will be followed by a showing of a short documentary, “Hiroshima No Pika,” at the Peace & Justice Center of Eastern Maine, 96 Harlow St., Suite 100. For information, call 942-9343.

Bangor Hydro plans service Interruption

BANGOR, Maine — Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. is planning a scheduled interruption of electrical service beginning at midnight Thursday, July 21, near St. Joseph Hospital.

This outage is necessary to replace damaged poles in the area. Customers and business located in the area should make arrangements to be without service from midnight to 2 a.m.
